Classroom Activities are now available to accompany Newsademic, the international newspaper for the younger reader.
The National Curriculum-related and citizenship-rich activities take the form of searching questions and a range of tasks based on some of the international news stories in each issue.
The activities are tailored to different ability levels. Teachers and parents can choose the best fit for their students or children.
Newsademic is carefully written and edited for readers aged between 9 and 16. It aims to educate and inform them about current international news stories. Subscribers can choose either the British or the American English version. These carry the same news stories but differ slightly in writing style, punctuation and spelling.
Over 6,000 people read Newsademic – from Argentina to Fiji and Sweden to South Africa. And the number is growing all the time. Over 500 schools and educational establishments now subscribe.
“We are delighted to widen our appeal,” said Susan Elkin, Newsademic’s editor. “Numerous conversations with school subscribers have helped us to work out what form the Classroom Activities should take. Everyone we speak to believes the activities will help students become more aware of international current events – and make it fun too.”
Newsademic carries no advertising. Neither does it feature television, sport, computer games, pop music or the celebrity culture. The focus is on international news events – the ones which shape and affect the world that we all live in today.
