Event at San Francisco’s Herbst Theatre on Sept. 14,2003 dedicated to the victims of Sept. 11, 2001

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — September 3, 2003 —- Persian Center (http://www.persiancenter.org)proudly presents a night of music and dance, featuring the Iranian Guitar Duo, Babak and Pedram Falsafi (http://iranianguitarduo.com/),Sunday,September 14, 2003, at San Francisco’s Herbst theater http://www.performances.org/theaters/herbst.asp).

The brothers plan to shatter preconceived notions of the sounds of the classical guitar, as they take the audience on a journey “From Iran to Argentina”, with intricately woven music from these regions. For the traditional Persian music lovers, there will also be a complex composition for two guitars and Iranian drums (tombak & daff) played by Kamran Modirian, accompanied by Niosha Dance Academy (http://www.niosha.com).

The visual delights will continue as tango dancers Sandor and Parissa (http://www.sandorparissa.com/) perform to the Iranian Guitar Duo’s romantic sounds from South America.

Babak and Pedram Falsafi formed the Iranian Guitar Duo after many years exploring Iranian and Middle Eastern music on the classical guitar. Babak studied the guitar in Tehran with renowned guitar teacher Bagher Moazen and later at the Prague Conservatory of Music with Milan Zelenka, while Pedram immigrated to the United States and became a lifetime guitar and composition student of Dusan Bogdanovic. The brothers, who reunited in San Francisco, shared that “traveling, learning foreign languages, and meeting many artists worldwide has helped us appreciate different cultures, traditions and art forms, and has had an impact on our music.” Although influenced by numerous classical music recordings including Bach’s Cantatas and Mozart’s Concertos, they remain eager to learn more about other styles of music such as popular and folk.

From traditional to modern music and dance,the evening ventures to create dialogue and bring understanding and appreciation among various cultures, without the spoken word. This event is dedicated to the victims of the September 11th, 2001 and all other innocent victims of violence in history. Shahin Tabrizi, Persian Center Board Member, commented that “lives have been shortened and dreams have been shattered because of the belief that taking an innocent life in pursuit of one’s own ideology is justified. Let us hope that there will be a day when we realize that there is no cause greater, no commitment more important, and no aspiration more precious than honoring a life.”
