MONTREAL, Canada—June21, 2002—Die Alive, a 2001 digital feature shot for a few hundred dollars, has signed a exclusive online distribution deal with HOLLYWOOD.COM, a website aimed at distributing movies online.

Die Alive (http://www.diealivethemovie.com) caught the media’s attention back in January when it was awarded the Guinness World Record for “Least Expensive Feature of all time”. New School, New York City TANGO & BEYOND: The World of Tango Songs

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) October 16, 2005

Called by her many fans, “Anna Magnani with voice,” Maria Cangiano, originally from Argentina, has a unique voice within Argentine a new generation of Tango singers. Tango is much more than the lusty and sensuous dance familiar in the United States and around the world. Since the genres birth among the lower classes of Buenos Aires at the turn of the 19th century, it comprised not only music and dance, but a rich lyric tradition. Tango songs portray humankind conflicts from gender issues, ethnic stereotypes, and class conflicts to the plain old heartache of love in all its forms. Trained as an opera singer, Maria Cangiano combines drama and singing in her interpretation of old and new Tango songs as “mini-operas” or melodramatic stories. As the Brooklyn press said, The depth and power of Maria Cangianos woeful, soulful voice brings the nostalgic nature of the music to life.

Her musicians -some of the best exponents of new tango in the United States- are four incredible international performers with a rich background in classical, jazz and tango music: Octavio Brunetti (piano), the winner of the New York Tango International Competition, David Hodges (bandoneon), Pedro Giraudo (Bass), and Victor Prieto (accordion), called the accordion genius (Daily News). The result is an original “global tango,” that mixes traditional and avant-garde tango trends with the musicians’ backgrounds and life experiences.

TANGO & BEYOND, premiered at Joe’s Pub last Spring, is a soulful journey through classic tango songs, its characters and themes from the 1930s to the present. It includes some of the most famous tango songs from the golden age of tango (1930-50s), as well as, the new tango of Astor Piazzolla (1960s). This repertoire shows different aspects of the poetics of tango, ranging from the 1930s well-know sentimental and realistic ones, the 1940-50s more abstract and symbolic to the surrealistic tangos of the 60s and 70s. Maria Cangiano’s soulful interpretation of the songs and the musical arrangements explore the melodramatic nature of the music, as well as, the complex and rich relationship between classic, jazz and tango music.

Sports Betting Site Bodog.com Posts Odds on World Cup for Team USA

(PRWEB) June 21, 2006

Facing possible elimination, it’s all or nothing for Team USA as it heads into Saturday’s World Cup match against Italy. Can the Americans silence critics and pull out a miracle win to keep alive their hopes of advancing to the second round of the world’s biggest sports tournament? The odds say no as Bodoglife.com bookmakers have the Italians favored at -250.

“Even with Team USA’s poor start in the tournament, we are seeing an overwhelming amount of betting action from U.S. based bettors,” says Calvin Ayre, Founder and CEO of Bodoglife.com. “There are a number of formidable teams that appeal to sports fans, and as the tournament progresses, we’re expecting even greater interest.”

For fans of Team USA, interest will be at a peak for the team’s second World Cup game. After his squad failed to score a goal in a lopsided 3-0 loss to the Czech Republic on Monday, U.S. coach Bruce Arena has been questioned about his ability to motivate his team. A tactical switch is needed in order for the Americans to compete with Italy, a team that has beaten them in each of their previous three matches. The U.S. will need to be aggressive in attack yet staunch on defense, a tall order considering they did little of either against the Czechs.

The Italians also have room to improve. Although they beat Ghana 2-0 in their opening Group E match, the Italians were not overly impressive. They do have the fortune of facing a U.S. team that has scored only eight goals in its last nine World Cup games dating to 1998.

With a massive North American fan base for both teams watching live, Bodoglife.com has posted its odds for this crucial match:

The action continues to heat up in Germany, where the summer’s largest sporting event has hit the quarterfinal stage. As always, Bodoglife.com has posted the odds.

The 2006 FIFA World Cup is down to the “elite eight” – Germany, Argentina, Italy, Ukraine, England, Portugal, Brazil and France – as the month-long tournament moves into its third round.

As has been the case with all World Cup games to date, the Bodoglife.com Sportsbook is offering a variety of lines, futures and innovative player and team props covering all the action from Germany.

“The round of 16 provided some excellent play, compelling storylines and notable upsets,” says Bodoglife.com Founder and CEO Calvin Ayre. “We’re excited to provide wagering options that align themselves with the world’s biggest sporting event, and equally excited to watch the quarterfinal round.”

On Friday, the host Germans will square off against Argentina, who needed extra time to dispose of Mexico in the round of 16. In the other Friday game, Italy will take on the surprising Ukrainians, who are making their inaugural World Cup appearance a memorable one with their storybook quarterfinal run.

Saturday action includes what many perceive to be the marquee game of the round – Brazil versus France in a rematch of the 1998 World Cup Final. Saturday morning, all eyes will be on the England-Portugal game, a rematch from the 2004 European Championship quarterfinals, which Portugal won via penalty shootout.

Gutsy Sacred Music Festival Features 9 World Premieres, Dave Brubeck Work, Intercultural Concert

NEW YORK (PRWEB) September 26, 2006

A gutsy music festival featuring premieres of nine bold works from Eastern and Western religious traditions, a rarely performed spiritual composition by legendary jazz musician Dave Brubeck and a transformative intercultural concert that weaves sacred music from earliest biblical times to the “golden age” of medieval Spain, when Islamic, Christian and Jewish faiths enjoyed an unrivaled harmony, will be held at Merkin Concert Hall in New York Nov. 4-5.

The second Festival of Universal Sacred Music, produced and sponsored by the nonprofit Foundation for Universal Sacred Music (http://www.universalsacredmusic.org), will feature the first performances of extraordinary commissioned works by some of the world’s foremost contemporary sacred music composers, including Emmy and Juno Award winners.

“The festival dares to juxtapose and integrate musical and religious styles and customs in ways that we believe will open people’s minds and hearts,” says foundation Executive Director Ullamaija Kivimaki. “The courageous, healing music will help us celebrate our diversity while at the same time recognize all that we share in common. And through this, it can give us a sacred musical experience far richer and fuller than that of any single tradition.”

The foundation’s purpose is to help bridge the spiritual differences that divide the world today by fostering the creation and promotion of music that reflects the unifying and unconditional love of God.

Under the music directorship of conductor Susanne Peck, the festival’s nine commissioned works will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Reserved seats are $ 35. Brubeck’s piece will be performed during Saturday night’s concert. The intercultural concert will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, with reserved seats $ 30.

Discounted Festival Passes, with reserved seats for all three concerts, are available for only $ 90. Groups, senior citizens and students are eligible for further discounts.

Complimentary receptions, during which audience members may meet the composers and musicians, follow the Saturday night and Sunday afternoon concerts.

Commissioned compositions and composers at the festival include:

“To God of All Nations,” a four-movement choral and instrumental piece, composed by University of Toronto professor and Hong Kong native Ka Nin Chan, that interweaves passages from the Bible, Koran and Buddhist writings to express the diversity of faiths and the oneness of God.

“The Family of God,” a harmonic, contrapuntal piece in four sections, by Emmy Award-winning Stephen Cohn of Los Angeles, observing the divisions humanity has created from its religious differences.

“Mandala for Dawn,” a musical mantra, by Kim Cunio of Sydney, Australia, of a soul’s liberation to light from darkness, as well as compassion, mercy and emptiness, following the killing of Dawn Griggs, a dear friend of the Cunio’s, who was murdered on her arrival in New Delhi for a meditation retreat; featuring the angelic voice of concert soprano soloist Heather Lee, winner of an ARIA award.

“Woods: A Prose Sonnet,” by Julie Dolphin of Purchase, N.Y., articulating an aural forest that celebrates the universal sum of love that rejoices in the beauty of life’s diversity as an expression of its inherent and coherent unity.

New York, NY (Vocus) May 27, 2010

This year on May 26, the world unites once more in the MS movement to highlight the international effects of multiple sclerosis (MS). This year to bring home the importance of what an MS diagnosis can mean, which occurs hourly in the US, the MSIF initiated the first global survey covering 125 countries and examining the Global Impact of Multiple Sclerosis. Estimates among the 15 nations tracking such data, indicate that the average annual costs of MS to the person affected and society as a whole to be $ 41,335, and most currently in the US, $ 69,118. Based on an MS population in the U.S. of 400,000 that would mean the total yearly impact of MS in the United States is $ 28 billion. Loss of employment, or early retirement, was considered to be the single largest factor contributing to this financial cost.

MS is found in every country in the world, and is one of the most common neurological diseases amongst people in their 20s and 30s. It is a prime of life disease striking just when people are building their careers and families. MS affects at least twice as many women as men and up to 60% of people diagnosed with MS will experience long-term disability, though continuing medical breakthroughs have brought partially effective treatments to many.

Buenos Aires Surfaces as the Art Capital of the World

West Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) June 22, 2010

Buenos Aires is in the midst of a highly-charged historical “cultural arts Renaissance” which has been years in the making. On May 24, 2010, over three million people converged on Avenida 9 de Julio to celebrate the 200th bicentennial of the city and the gala re-opening of the famed Colon Opera House, which had been closed for four years during a complete and costly renovation. Not since Evita Peron’s fable funeral in 1952 have such large crowds gathered in the streets of Buenos Aires for a single cultural event.

To those art aficionados who have their fingers on the pulse of global art scenes, this kind of outpouring in Argentina for such a pomp and circumstance event comes as no surprise whatsoever.

Make no mistake about it, the evidence has been mounting and well-chronicled for some time concerning Buenos Aires’ cultural revival! Numerous events in the city over the past several years have been confirming this important development all along. Whether by divine design or happenstance, a series of events, experiences and efforts have been taking place in the capital of Argentina.

It is as if co-ordinated cultural formulas for success have been achieved on all fronts in a timely order. To simplify a rather dynamic overview, one could argue that the new surge began about four years ago when the Colon Opera House closed its doors.

Since that time, orchestrated by efforts of several government agencies, foundations for the arts, and world-wide developments, a revival of cultural interests and expressions has mushroomed in Buenos Aires and has been opening doors to this new era. It stands to reason that the Colon, with new state-of-the-art

enhancements, is perhaps the premier opera venue on the earth.

The influence of world affairs seems to have played perfectly into Buenos Aires

URI Celebrates World Interfaith Harmony Week

San Francisco, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) February 02, 2011

As popular uprisings roil the Middle East and North Africa this week, a revolution of a different kind is just beginning to take shape. Tuesday marked the start of the first annual United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week, February 1-7. Crowded amidst a dizzying array of UN days, weeks, month, even decades, this designated week stands out as the first global-level acknowledgment of the importance of interfaith cooperation and understanding to world peace and prosperity.

Initiated by King Abdullah II of Jordan, the week is a chance for interfaith advocates, religious and government leaders, and people of all walks of life to celebrate the common ground they share as people of faith and conviction and take a united stand against violence in the name of religion.

United Religions Initiative, the worlds largest grassroots interfaith network, is taking a lead role in making this vision a reality. Dozens of its member organizations, called Cooperation Circles (CCs), have organized activities this week to break down barriers between religious groups and celebrate the moral ethics that bind us all.

URIs Middle East and North Africa office in Jordan will bring Muslim and Christian leaders together to visit a Mosque and a church in Amman and pray for peace in the region; CCs in South India are hosting a religion quiz competition for students; CCs and regional leadership in the Philippines are hosting an interfaith festival of art and music; and URIs UN office is helping organize an interfaith breakfast for UN NGOs. URI activities are also taking place in Ethiopia, Malaysia, Morocco, Uganda, Palestine, Germany, Argentina, Spain, Egypt, Finland and more.

World Music Band Los Pinguos, Hailing From Argentina, Hits The Stage At The Lensic, Santa Fes Performing Arts Center May 18th

Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) May 06, 2012

As part of its World Music series, The Lensic, a SantaFe.com Featured Business, presents the Argentine band Los Pinguos on May 18. A longtime favorite amongst world music fans, Los Pinguos are extensively touring the U.S. and Canada to promote their eighth album, 1111, which officially hit the streets April 18th. The new collection of songs captures the bands dynamic genre-bending musical range, showcasing a stunning ability to integrate traditional Latin rhythms into thoroughly modern compositions.

Longtime listeners will recognize the bands trademark infectious sound. The addition of a string quartet on four songs, lends a distinctive cinematic feel to those tracks, and the album as a whole. Many songs on 1111 have been road-tested over the last two to three years. In concert, the band reproduces their sound with precision, yet they retain that elusive raw energy live audiences have come to expect from Los Pinguos.

Hailing from cosmopolitan Buenos Aries, Argentina, Los Pinguos united in 1999, immediately winning over fans with their passionate live shows in clubs, bars and private parties throughout the capital. Making a leap of faith, the band journeyed to Los Angeles in 2001, intent on taking their career to the next level. Consistent performances for excited audiences at clubs like The Latin Lounge, The Knitting Factory, Key Club and others culminated in impressive gigs at Santa Monicas 3rd Street Promenade. These shows convinced the band of their ability to reach a wide and diverse audience. Spotted by a talent scout on the promenade, Los Pinguos soon found themselves winning the Grand Prize on the show The Next Big Star and were finally exposed to a national audience.

Since then, the band has recorded five albums and have played with such acts as Ozomatli, Taj Mahal, The Skatalites, The Neville Brothers, Pablo Montero, Paul Anka, Pl
