Guinness World Record film distributed to World Wide Audience

MONTREAL, Canada—June21, 2002—Die Alive, a 2001 digital feature shot for a few hundred dollars, has signed a exclusive online distribution deal with HOLLYWOOD.COM, a website aimed at distributing movies online.

Die Alive (http://www.diealivethemovie.com) caught the media’s attention back in January when it was awarded the Guinness World Record for “Least Expensive Feature of all time”. The 100-minute film premiered last year at the FantAsia film festival in Montreal where it was enthusiastically acclaimed by critics and audience members alike.

“Die Alive is a comedy about filmmaking, shot documentary style” said JF Leduc, Die Alive’s director. “With its fantasy touches, CGI special effects and original score, Die Alive is vastly entertaining.”

Set to be projected again in both Montreal at FantAsia 2002 (which has just been postponed due to location problems) and in Argentina at CINENCUADRE 2002, Die Alive’s online distribution through HOLLYWOOD.COM will make it possible for a feature film produced with very little means and completed on a home computer to reach a worldwide audience. “The internet is the perfect medium for a digital feature to be broadcast, we’re happy to share Die Alive with the what is literally a worldwide audience” concluded Leduc.

Die Alive is set to premiere on Hollywood.com’s Indie Films Channel during their 3rd Hollywood.com Indie Film Festival (HIFF 2002) to be held online July 8 through July 28, 2002.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (PRWEB) November 22, 2003—Soleil Film & Television, Inc., formerly Ameridream Entertainment, Inc. (Pink Sheets: SLTV) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with producers Falla LLC to acquire 20% of the distribution revenue of the feature film, “Fallacy,” in return for a small cash contribution. The agreement guarantees Soleil the return of its investment, a guaranteed profit of 50%, and 20% of all worldwide revenues of the film over its initial $ 800,000 in earnings. Soleil will receive presentation credit for the film, which has projected earnings from $ 1.4 to $ 6.2 million. Discussions are currently underway for Soleil’s acquisition of the entire film.

Havana Film Festival in New York 2004 celebrates 5 years of sucess April 22 - 29 2004

In its 5th edition, Havana Film Festival in New York (HFFNY) presents 40 films including U.S and N.Y. premieres in Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx. HFFNY will showcase visions of Latin American culture through cutting edge narrative, documentary, short films and classics from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, all of which have English subtitles. Films by and about Latinos in the U.S. will also be featured this year. Festival attendees will have opportunities to attend panel discussions with directors, producers and actors and enjoy Latin American music from local and international talent at nightclubs including Babalú, Copacabana, Nell’s, China Club, Lotus, and SOB’s.

Thursday, April 22, HFFNY launches the week-long festivities by honoring Jacobo Morales at Hostos Center for Arts and Culture (450 Grand Concourse at 149th St. Bronx) with screenings of Linda Sara at 12:30 pm and Lo que le pasó a Santiago at 7 pm. There will be a reception at 5:30 pm and a discussion with the director following each screening. From April 23 to 29, screenings will be held at the Quad Cinema (34 W. 13 St.). Friday, April 23, the N.Y. premiere of Suite Habana opens the festival with screenings at 5 and 7 pm followed by A Havana Night Gala at Babalú (323 West 44 St.) with dinner and live music. Thursday, April 29, the festival closes with the N. Y. premiere of El Carro by Colombian director, Luis Orjuela at 7 pm followed by a closing night party. In Queens, classic Latin American films will be exhibited at the American Museum of the Moving Image (35th Ave at 36th St. Astoria).

Saturday, April 24 there is a reception at 5:30 pm and screening of Quilombo by Brazilian Director Carlos Diegues at 6:30 pm. A post-screening Brazilian Party at Clic (32-04 Broadway at 32nd St. Astoria) is hosted by Bavaria Beer at 9 pm. Sunday, April 25 a Cuban classic, Los Sobrevivientes by acclaimed Director Tomás Gutierrez Alea, screens at 6:30 pm. This year HFFNY celebrates the work of two influential filmmakers: Fernando Pérez and Jacobo Morales. Pérez, one of the most important directors and screenwriters working in cinema today, has astonished audiences worldwide with his innovative and enduring narratives and images.

Each film planned for the retrospective–Madagascar, Hello Hemingway, Omara, La Isla del Tesoro Azul (The Island of Blue Treasure), La Vida es Silbar (Life Is To Whistle), and his latest film, Suite Habana–is a testament to his unusual talent. Jacobo Morales is one of the most influential artists in Puerto Rico. After a successful career in Hollywood, he relocated to Puerto Rico, dedicating himself to the creation of a national film identity. He became a legend when his movie, Lo que le paso a Santiago (Whatever Happened to Santiago), was nominated for an Oscar for best foreign language film. On Sunday September 19th at 9pm the documentary film “Wall Hall #9″ a month long event, will be screened .- a huge international art installation at 7000 Melrose Ave. in Los Angeles on Thursday September 16th at 8pm.

On Thursday September 16 2004 at 5pm Telestar International presents WALL HALL, the culmination of four weeks for continuous painting by artists Bert Hewener- Esenherz and David Hinnebusch. On Sunday September 19th 2004 a film documenting the four weeks and reception which will include live performances of music, film, food and fashion by special guests will be shown. The remaining un-sold work will then be destroyed. The only witness left will be the documentary film “Wall Hall.”

Wall Hall is an art project. The purpose is for audience to visualize the definition of ART. Since 1993, Bert Hewener- Esenherz has continued to fight the term of contemporary art”.

“The progressive process by itself in order to express the momentary thought or feeling in a most unique manner is art.” (Esenherz 1993)

If his claimed definition of ART is correct, then the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) needs to change their name to Museum of the Contemporary Witness of Art (MOTCWOA). The WALL HALL is a performance where a collaboration of artists shows the process of art. The produced artwork builds the illusion of a complex installation. The daily progress of the work and all connected stories will be captured on video. The Wall Hall project found first recognition in Berlin 1994, Zuerich in 1995, London 1995, Amsterdam 1996, Stuttgart 1997, New York 1998, Brooklyn 1999/ 2000 and in Los Angeles in 2002.

Bert Hewener-Esenherz is a Berlin born New York painter and filmmaker. He graduated visual arts at the Academy of Muenster in 1992. His paintings and movies are entirely dedicated to the expression of daily live in urban invireoment of Brooklyn and Manhattan. In 2001 Bert walked a large painting (7×5 ft) from New York to Denver, Co. He covered a distance 0f 2023 miles in 93 days. The purpose of his journey was to help people discover the artist within themselves, as well as, to support local artists throughout the country. His paintings are in collections of people in the US, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, South Africa, Japan, China, Australia, Germany, Spain, UK, France, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Luxemburg, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Austria, Israel and Lybia.

David Hinnebusch, born in Pittsburgh, PA. in 1964, moved from Tanzania, East Africa to Los Angeles in 1968 and except for living in East Africa an additional year in 1970, has lived and worked on the West-side of Los Angeles since. A creator from childhood, Hinnebusch has made music, film, books, now a clothing line and in the last ten years a huge body of paintings which recently have found their way into the collections of people and non- people internationally. Through showing and selling on Oceanfront Walk in Venice, California, Hinnebusch continues to follow his own path making art and has been rewarded handsomely for the effort. As for Wall Hall “I’m very excited to go paint with Bert- he’s a real New York artist – I guess I’ll be serving Hinnebiscuits at Wall Hall.”

The original decision to bring the event to Port Harcourt, Nigeria was the brainchild of Caterina Bortolussi and Soledad Grognett, two enterprising young women from Italy and Argentina, who fell in love with the country four years ago while visiting on business. As the creative director of the communications outfit Omcomm; Bortolussi is extremely passionate about changing in bred media misperceptions about Nigeria, and she found a willing accomplice in Port Harcourt’s progressive governor, His Excellency Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi. Bortolussi says. “We wanted to show people that Port Harcourt, Nigeria is not all they’ve been reading about, it’s not just a place of conflict. So when we were discussing this with the Governor he said, ‘Why don’t we use the film festival to celebrate peace through art?’ At that point, the ION film festival was looking for a new location, so it all just came together.”

Apart from Esposito other industry talent in attendance included actress Daryl Hannah, Parminder Vir OBE , Pras of the legendary Fugees, Nigeria next icon to be Nneka, Adnan Siddiqui Pakistani Super Star, Genevive Nnaji (main Nollywood Actress that also participated to the Oprah Winfrey Show), Stephanie Okereke, Kunle Afolayan, Ruth Nirere Shanel, Masumej Makhija, Agbani Darego (First African Miss World) and Catherine Ruelle.

The goals of IONIFF are to “Unite and bring peace for Film Makers & Film Lovers” which in turn has helped to improve the economics of the Rivers State, as well as benefit the community by contributing to film investment and education and to also collaborate with other artists and arts organizations.

The jury and audience award-winners of the 2009 ION International Film Festival were announced at the Festival’s closing Awards Ceremony hosted by the Rivers State Governor in Port Harcourt.

It was truly a remarkable year for IONIFF in ways that were not fully predicted. The Festival opened with great enthusiasm and excitement together with genuine community support for such a momentous event in global Cinema, and in between showcased some of the best films and held some of the best seminars ever seen. People may ask how independent film has evolved in Nollywood , the answer is, quite simply, it’s better.

More than 80 films from around the world were screened, 30 of which were Nigerian. The festival featured music, events and workshops, including the acting workshop & session with world renowned American actor-director Esposito, who premiered his film “Gospel Hill”, at the Festival.

This has been another truly remarkable year for the Amsterdam Film Festival. The contest received several hundred submissions representing top storytellers from over 20 countries around the world. The quality of the work that we had the honor of reviewing was simply astounding. Judging from among this exceptionally high caliber of filmmaking talent proved to be extremely difficult as there were so many unique, well-made and worthy projects. After several months of careful consideration, we present to you the very best of the 2011 competition.

The De grote Prijs van de Jury was presented to New Low directed by Adam Bowers (USA). A neurotic twentysomething struggles to figure out which girl he really belongs with: the best or the worst one he’s ever known.

The Cinematic Vision Award was presented to The Greater Good directed by Chris Pilaro & Kendall Nelson (USA). The Greater Good looks behind the fear, hype and politics that have polarized the vaccine debate in America today. The film re-frames the emotionally charged issue and offers, for the first time, the opportunity for a rational and scientific discussion on how to create a safer and more effective vaccine program.

The Van Gogh Award was presented to Berts Plan directed by Yair Shvartz (USA). Bert is a struggling middle-aged writer attempting to get his book published. Downtrodden and plagued with rejection, Bert comes up with a plan. In a twist of hilariously dark, ironic and serendipitous events, Bert’s original plan takes an unexpected turn.

The Prodigy Auteur Prize was presented to Victim, directed by Leon Rowe (USA). Victim is a psychological thriller about a man who is plagued by guilt, anger and vengeance struggling with a decision that will change his life forever.

The Grand Jury Prize was presented to The Secret Friend directed by Flavio Alves (Brazil). A phone call can be a lifeline. Empty days are given new hope, but when the calls abruptly end a devastated Anna is compelled to surprising action to fill the unbearable void.

The Grand Jury Prize was presented to Der Sandmann directed by Peter Luisi (Switzerland). One fine morning, Benno finds sand in his bed. While he tries to ignore this at first, he soon must realize that he himself is loosing the sand. Day after day the sand increases and soon his time literally starts running short.

The Grand Jury Prize was presented to Wish directed by Kyle Milardo (USA). One boy makes a wish that will change live of many.

The Special Jury Prize, World Cinema Documentary was presented to Sharkwise directed by Lieven Debrauwer (Belgium). The movie takes place in the beautiful settings of Egypt, Mozambique and South Africa, where Marc Sluszny and his team prepare for the ultimate journey. Marc will attempt to dive with the Great White shark outside of the cage.

The Special Jury Prize, World Cinema Dramatic was presented to Sofia directed by Shervin Kermani (Canada). In his final moments Joseph, an old reclusive painter, has a dream where he wanders through many of his memories. Over the course of a nostalgic odyssey, he encounters many images from his past including that of his late wife, professor, and a memory of his mother Sofia, a ballerina whose beautiful dancing becomes for the older man an image of redemption.

The Special Jury Prize, World Cinema Short was presented to Return directed by Cyd Chartier Cohn (USA). Fred Sondermann was fifteen when he and his parents narrowly escaped Nazi Germany just before the outbreak of WWII. Thirty years later, he is offered the opportunity to travel and teach in his native Germany. Though the American political science professor is afraid of what he will find, he is also strangely attracted to this place of horror.

The Special Jury Prize, World Cinema Student was presented to Landlocked directed by Jerry Melichar (USA). A well-loved Tulsa, Ok, high school teacher is forced to sell candy bars between class periods in order to stock her classroom with Marine Biology supplies. When accused of stealing from the fundraiser, an overwhelming tide of suspicion leads Martha to drastic measures in order to reclaim control of her classroom and her life.

The Special Jury Prize, World Cinema Music Video was presented to Corrupted Scene Behind the Stage directed by Ivan Mena Tinoco (Spain). Every one of us has a part that we dont share with anyone. The stage and the backstage as a metaphor of our personalities are reflected in this mysterious approach to the video.

The Special Jury Prize, World Cinema Animation was presented to Los Estrandados directed by Derek Evanick (USA). A hysterical comedy about two men stranded on island dealing with relationship issues.

The Special Jury Prize, Dutch Documentary was presented to Mila’s Journey directed by Annie Perkins & Rinku Kalsy (Netherlands). Mila’s Journey follows Mila & her decision to return to India after more than 30 years. The film juxtaposes modern images with the old 8mm footage & pays homage to romance, adventure, spirituality, freedom and female independence. The film shows one Dutch woman’s attempt to answer the question ‘what would happen if I went back?’

The Special Jury Prize, Dutch Dramatic was presented to In Transit directed by Kees-Jan Husselman (Netherlands). A poetic documentary that takes place in a Dutch asylum center where refugees are waiting to hear if they will allowed to enter the country or not. Sometimes for years people live in insecurity while somebody else decides about their future. In an observational and stylistic manner the film shows people fighting with time while thoughts of traumatic pasts haunt people in silent moments of waiting. We see a man from Somalia, a family from Angola and a family from Iraq, each waiting in their own way.

The Special Jury Prize for Originality was presented to How It Ended directed by Gabriel Nussbaum (USA). An older invites a younger friend lover to have a lovely dinner and participate in what is certain to be the darkest night in all three of their lives.

The Special Jury Prize for Spirit of Independence was presented to Streets of Flamenco directed by Marisa Lloreda Saez (USA). The story of internationally acclaimed flamenco dancer Maria Bermudez’ inspiring personal journey that took her from East L.A., to living among the gypsies in the southern Spanish town of Jerez de la Frontera, the ‘birthplace of flamenco’.

The Special Jury Prize for Acting, World Cinema was presented to Spinster directed by Pip Satchell (USA). Trying to stay out of trouble while doing community service, a recently paroled ex-con meets his match in a crazy old woman at a nursing home.

The Special Jury Prize for Acting was presented to Sissy directed by Bonnie Root (USA). Sissy’s mother, Bernie, dumps her with a family friend, Charlie, a struggling magician down on his luck. To make ends meet, Charlie takes a job touring schools on Indian reservations and brings Sissy along for the ride. When he makes Sissy his personal assistant he begins to impose responsibilities upon her that are beyond the abilities of a fourteen year old. When Sissy fails to live up to his expectations, Charlie finds other ways to make Sissy useful to himself.
