Perceptive Travel Snags Two Grand Prizes in Annual Travel Writing Awards

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) January 24, 2007

The North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) has announced the winners of their annual awards competition, with Perceptive Travel stories pulling in two of the four Grand Prizes. Wendy Knight was named an overall winner for her story “Dangerous Minds,” covering a visit to Cartagena, Colombia with her daughter. Editor Tim Leffel was the other winner for his Argentina-based story “Meat and Malbec at Midnight.”

Knight also received a runner-up prize for a story in the New York Times, while Leffel was a runner-up in the Travel Guide category for his book, “Make Your Travel Dollars Worth a Fortune.”

“It is exciting to receive this kind of recognition just as we celebrate our one-year anniversary,” says Tim Leffel, editor of Perceptive Travel. “In November a feature of ours from Rolf Potts appeared in the ‘Best American Travel Writing 2006′ anthology. Winning Grand Prizes from NATJA for two additional stories is a great honor. I’m very proud to be associated with the talented book authors that have written for us over the past year.”

“Much of travel writing is constrained by word count, publication style and the imperative to convey practical information to readers,” says winner Wendy Knight. “I’m always grateful for the opportunity to write for Perceptive Travel, where I can abandon those parameters and simply write from the heart. The oft-quoted adage says we write best about that which we love the most. I think I’ll continue to write about my daughter.”

Perceptive Travel is billed as home to “the best travel stories from authors on the move.” The site publishes travel narratives from wandering book authors and reviews notable travel books and world music. See more at http://www.perceptivetravel.com.
