INTERNATIONAL DESIGNERS GRACE NEW YORK’S CATWALK

(PRWEB) February 21, 2003

On February 6, 2003, USA International Fashion Shows introduced four fashion designers to the New York City market. The runway shows of Clive Rundle, Jorge Isaac, Fabrizio Celleri and Lourdes Atencio took place at the luxurious Manhattan Penthouse on Fifth Avenue before an audience of fashion buyers, a select group of VIPs and members of the international press representing publications from Japan, Germany, Argentina, the Dominican Republic and many other countries. As a direct result of their participation in the event, two of the designers are already in negotiation with one of the USA’s largest retailers. Photos, videos and slide presentations showcasing the fashion collections are now available to member of the press and buyers not present at the event.

A high level of cooperation was in evidence among the staff, designers, models, volunteers and producer of the shows. “At one point,” according to Andres Aquino, producer of the event, “it seemed that everyone — including the designers — were working with everyone else to make the shows a complete success. There is an incredibly high energy level,” Mr. Aquino noted. A number of members of the press expressed their enthusiasm about the shows. As one editor put it, “The USA International Fashion Shows are needed in New York to bring out fresh talent from other countries… it compliments the existing shows that we see during fashion week.”

The February show was just a taste of what will be the beginning of an international event of great magnitude in the fashion industry in the USA. A number of designers have already signed up for the September 2003 shows that promises to be the first truly international runway fashion event in New York City with the participation of designers from around the world.

The designers presented:

JORGE ISAAC. A native of Ecuador, this talented fashion designer was inspired early on by the natural beauty and color palette surrounding him. In 1991, Jorge moved to New York City to follow his dream of becoming a successful fashion designer. His premiere collection for Fall 2003 is a product of Jorge’s fashion sensibility and creativity in a mélange of pieces designed to complement a woman’s natural sensuality. “I believe that beauty lies within… Just give it a nudge to bring it forth…”

FABRIZIO CELLERI. A well-established, award-winning designer in his native Ecuador, Fabrizio Celleri is a former fashion consultant for TC Television and Ecuavisa. He opened his first boutique in Guayaquil in 1997. In 1998, Fabrizio was invited by the French consulate to present his collection along with students of the Ecole Bercole in Paris. CLIVE RUNDLE. Born in Zimbabwe and raised in South Africa, Clive Rundle is an established South African designer. Drawn to fashion early in life, Clive studied his craft in Johannesburg. In 1986, he was invited to show a small collection at the Coer Des Beaux Arts in France with other young designers. Soon after, his label was hanging in more than 50 stores in South Africa and Clive decided to launch his own boutique. Clive Rundle’s collection is sponsored in part by world-renowned Swarovski crystals.

Clive attributes his primary influences to beauty, nature, complexity of construction, fabric, color, composition, art, sculpture and music. The essence of his designs is a complicated garment structure, which is an extension of his entire thought process. The language of form, line, color and texture is his means of communication.

LOURDES ATENCIO. A native of the Dominican Republic, Lourdes Atencio is a visionary designer with a sophisticated taste for fashion and the fine arts. Lourdes’s designs are progressive yet elegant, appealing to glamorous women of all ages. In 1991, Lourdes launched the Avant-Elite design label that caters to an exclusive clientele including top models, media personnel and socialites. Her designs have been featured on the Despierta America and Primer Impacto television programs. Aero Mar and Falcon Airlines have commissioned Lourdes to design their work and leisure uniforms.

Since 1995, Lourdes’s designs have been featured in numerous beauty pageants and fashion shows. Prestigious London publisher Co & Bear recently featured some of Lourdes’s stunning designs in the hefty coffee table book I Do: 100 Years of Wedding Fashion. Selected for their exquisite workmanship and innovative spin on traditional form, photos of Lourdes’s wedding gowns appear in the book along with those of top designers including Christian Dior, Betsey Johnson, Yves Saint Laurent and many others. For the new millennium, Lourdes Atencio (Avant-Elite Designs) and Peter of London Salons and Spa have entered into a strategic alliance to launch new designs for the woman of the new era: independent, progressive, educated and highly sophisticated.

The Ripple Effects Interactive Web site optimizes user experience by incorporating visually captivating design created in Flash, with multimedia features such as music. More than 100 Worldwide Artists Have Joined and Contributed to the international Call for Artistic Expressions Against War

Bogotá, Colombia (PRWEB) November 19, 2004

The International Call launched on July 30 by Colombian pianist and mathematician Jorge Hernan Pelaez, from his web page http://www.musicagainstwar.com, has received positive response, with artistic expressions and peace propositions from countries such as Argentina, Australia, Barbados, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Cyprus, DR Congo, Ecuador, Egypt, Germany, Italy, Kenya, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Panama, Spain, Sweden and USA.

Up to November 15, Canadian activist Sara Marlowe, with her antiwar expressions; soldiers Polo & Castaño from Colombian army, with their album “Dreams of a Soldier”; Northamerican musicians Matt Singer, Miss Kristin and Brian Harrison, each with their artwork; Colombian psychoanalyst Astrid Alvarez, with an essay about music and war; and New York singer Kimi Landen (also known as Angrychik), with two songs, have contributed among others. A total of 106 jobs have been received and are available on both web pages http://www.musicagainstwar.com and http://www.musicacontralaguerra.com (most of them come form students and independent artists).

The International Call remains open to worldwide activists, students, writers, scientists, artists, actors, musicians, filmmakers and celebrities to create an international movement of explicit and authentic expressions against any form of war.

Ideas, songs, photos, videos, letters, poems and any other proposals can be mailed to: info@musicagainstwar.com and during the rest of 2004, the artist will gather the best material and summarize it in a multimedia document that will be sent to United Nations, in an attempt to show the world an artistic and peaceful channel of protest against war. All artistic expressions received in a digital format will be uploaded on the website on a weekly recurring basis.

His personal peace proposition began one year ago with the composition and production of his first piano album “Music Against War”, written as a tribute to war victims. Specifically, the artist is donating 50% of the sales of his album to a non-profit organization, which will manage and control the funds, with the final objective of investing them in musical education for war victims.

As of today, with his Spanish version of the website http://www.musicacontralaguerra.com, and live concerts performed during 2003, Jorge Hernan has achieved enough sales to guarantee that Omar Diaz, an injured soldier of military forces, could begin musical studies at University Los Andes, in Bogotá, Colombia on August 2003. Donations were made to the non-profit organization Querido Soldado (Dear Soldier), which was created as a free web-based channel so civil society could write encouraging and supportive e-mails to Colombian soldiers http://www.queridosoldado.org.

Jorge Hernan Pelaez is a 32 year old mathematician and independent musician from Bogotá, Colombia, who writes his music through a Stochastic Musical Composition method, technique that combines mathematical formulas such as probabilistic and random series, with the art of creating music. Do You Speak "Socceranto"? Soccer Gets Its Own International Language

London, UK (PRWEB) June 14, 2006

The 32 countries competing in the World Cup speak 18 official languages between them–not including the local dialects many participants actually speak.

So, how are officials, players and managers meant to communicate? The answer is to adopt a shared international language. So argue the inventors of just such a language in a book published on Lulu (http://www.lulu.com), a website that lets anyone publish their own book.

“Socceranto: Birth Of A Language” (http://www.lulu.com/socceranto) is part dictionary and part phrasebook. It is the work of an international team of fans led by an Argentinian-American student and an English schoolboy.

“Things are all very well when, say, Ecuador plays Costa Rica or Ghana meets the USA”, says Ted Freedman, 16, the England fan who co-edited the book. “But what about when Japan plays Brazil or Ukraine meets Saudi Arabia?”

The name “Socceranto” comes from the word “soccer”–a 19th-century offshoot of the term, “Association Football”–and Esperanto, the language invented in 1887 by Ludwig Zamenhof, that is the best-known previous attempt to invent an international language.

“Soccer,” adds Ignacio van Gelderen, 21, Freedman’s co-editor, “has become the most international game in the world and the most globalized industry.”

Socceranto draws most on six core languages–those of each of the seven nations to have won the World Cup to date: Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (Argentina and Uruguay), Italian, French, German and English.

It bases Socceranto words on both the names of famous players and on soccer slang and jargon, while also coining some brand new words:

maradona: n. a goal scored with illegal use of the hand. [Derivation: Diego Maradona who scored for Argentina against England in the 1986 World Cup by using his hand.]

muller: n. goalscorer. [Derivation: Gerd Muller, the great German striker of the 1970s, who remains top scorer in World Cup history, with 14 goals.]

fliegenfanger: n. a useless goalkeeper. [Derivation: German for flycatcher and so slang for a poor goalkeeper.]

rono n. a (non-Brazilian) player of Brazilian flair or skill; an honorary Brazilian.

[Derivation: Names of Brazil stars, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo.]

“This is just the launch of a long-term project,” says van Gelderen. Or, as we say in Socceranto, it’s “early doors” (early in the game). We hope that Socceranto will develop in time into a richer, more international, more distinct and fully fledged language. “And that this World Cup will help.”

The books editors call on fans worldwide to help develop the language by contributing their own ideas to an online forum (http://www.lulu.com/soccerantodev).

SOCCERANTO WORDS AND SENTENCES EXAMPLES AND LISTS

FIVE TYPES OF KICK, PASS OR MOVE NAMED AFTER PLAYERS

ronaldinho: a no-look pass named after Brazils Ronaldinho, who is a master at finding a team-mate without apparently looking up.

kaka: a volley. Named after Kaka, the Brazil and AC Milan midfielder, famed for his superb volleying.]

zizou: a 360-degree, spin-turn. Named after Zinadine Zidane, alias Zizou, master of this kind of turn.

Ciclismo Classico Announces Three New International Bicycling Tours for the 2008-09 Season: Chile/Argentina, New Zealand and Vietnam

Arlington, MA (PRWEB) June 27, 2008

In an effort to expand beyond Europe and to uphold its mission to discover the best bicycling routes in the world, Ciclismo Classico, one of the country’s premier bicycle tour companies, has added three new regions to explore, giving travelers the opportunity to cycle during the fall and winter from October – March. For its 2008-2009 season, Ciclismo Classico has added Chile & Argentina, New Zealand and Vietnam.

“When we started 20 years ago, our focus was on Italy,” says Ciclismo founder and cycling enthusiast Lauren Hefferon. “Over the years we added France, Spain, New England and many others continuing our goal of offering an array of safe, healthy, fun vacations that span Europe and immerse our riders in the culture and cuisine of the country they’re visiting. Now, with the addition of three new continents to our trip menu, new and returning cyclists will experience touring the Ciclismo Classico way in places where the lands are ripe with discovery and the dollar goes a bit farther.”

The company, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, has put together these three new tours, all of which include local guides, a fully-outfitted bicycle rental, accommodations and meals, cultural excursions, travel planning and more:

Chile and Argentina – debuts October 25, 2008

Ciclismo’s South American tour is the only one of its kind and offers the option of an 8-day base trip or a 10-day extended trip. Riders will cycle nearly 200 miles of scenic mountain routes with the snow-capped Andes nearby. Along the way, you’ll get the chance to ride by the Seven Lakes, visit five national parks, take a hike to Petrohue Falls, stop at the Curarrehue Museum and soak in the Huife hot springs. The additional two days will feature a trip to Santiago and the Colchagua Valley, an exclusive discussion about Chilean wines with a local sommelier, three private winery visits, and a horse-drawn carriage ride through the Vina Viu Manent’s vineyard. The 8-day trip starts at $ 3.795/person. The two night post-trip extension is an additional $ 1,195.

New Zealand – debuts November 16, 2008

This itinerary offers the choice between the base 10-day trip and an extended 14-day stay. The nearly 300-mile journey on the South Island starts in Christchurch and continues along New Zealand’s west coast and through the Southern Alps. During the bike tour, guests will ride the TranzAlpine Train, one of the world’s greatest scenic railway journeys. In addition to great biking, guests will witness a jade carving demonstration, hike to the base of the Fox Glacier in Westland National Park, go sea kayaking, and even visit a sheep farm. The extended package includes an overnight cruise on Milford Sound or Doubtful Sound, the opportunity to ride an additional 100+ miles, a stay in Te Anau, a ride to the shores of Lake Wakatipu, and a steamship ride to Queenstown. The 10-day trip starts at $ 3,995/person. The optional four night post-trip extension is an additional $ 1,895.

Vietnam – debuts October 25, 2008

This 11-day ride from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) features more than 200 miles of scenic and cultural cycling including riverside riding, coastal explorations, mountain passes, rolling hills and small villages. Riders will get the chance to see a traditional water puppet performance in Hanoi, experience a garden and tea stop while cycling through Hue and boat to the Coral Islands off Nha Trang. The itinerary also features exclusive visits to the homes of four Vietnamese experts, a boat cruise on the Perfume River and a ride to the famous Cu Chi tunnels. Guests also have the option to extend this trip for four days for a visit to Angkor Wat, Cambodia, where they will explore the city of Angkor Thom, visit the famous temple complex and a local Cambodian orphanage. The 11-day trip starts at $ 3,995/person, and the three night post-trip extension is an additional $ 1,275.

These tours are designed for small groups of between 14 and 18 guests, so space is very limited. A $ 500 deposit is required to make a reservation. The original decision to bring the event to Port Harcourt, Nigeria was the brainchild of Caterina Bortolussi and Soledad Grognett, two enterprising young women from Italy and Argentina, who fell in love with the country four years ago while visiting on business. As the creative director of the communications outfit Omcomm; Bortolussi is extremely passionate about changing in bred media misperceptions about Nigeria, and she found a willing accomplice in Port Harcourt’s progressive governor, His Excellency Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi. Bortolussi says. “We wanted to show people that Port Harcourt, Nigeria is not all they’ve been reading about, it’s not just a place of conflict. So when we were discussing this with the Governor he said, ‘Why don’t we use the film festival to celebrate peace through art?’ At that point, the ION film festival was looking for a new location, so it all just came together.”

Conill Wins Gold Lion At 2010 Cannes International Advertising Festival

Torrance, CA (PRWEB) June 29, 2010

Conill had a terrific showing at the 57th Annual Cannes International Advertising Festival held June 20-26, taking home a gold Lion in the Film category for its work for the Consulate General of Argentina in Los Angeles. The agency also earned Shortlist honors in the Media category for “Best Use of Television” for its non-traditional Toyota Camry advertising.

The gold-winning 30-second commercial titled Crying was among the most acclaimed of the festival, receiving thunderous applause during its screening. In it, a grief-stricken man agonizes alone after receiving a phone call. An epic musical score adds to the tension. It cuts to a new take on the scene, this time with the music replaced by the directors inspirational comments to the actor:

“Remember that we haven’t been Champions Since ’86″

“Brazil has won three more cups than us”

“And a few days ago we lost to Chile!”

The penultimate super reads, “A Bad Year For Our Futbol. A Good Year For Our Movies.”

Being behind the camera offers a unique perspective that most people never experience, said Conill Chief Creative Officer Pablo Buffagni. We used that perspective and took a playful spin on the director actor motivation process and it just clicked. The perfect and fortunate timing of having the World Cup happening gave the effort an added dimension.

Conills award-winning work can be seen at http://www.conill.com.

About Conill
