More than 100 Worldwide Artists Have Joined and Contributed to the international Call for Artistic Expressions Against War

The International Call launched on July 30 by Colombian pianist and mathematician Jorge Hernan Pelaez, from his web page http://www.musicagainstwar.com, has received positive response, with artistic expressions and peace propositions from countries such as Argentina, Australia, Barbados, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Cyprus, DR Congo, Ecuador, Egypt, Germany, Italy, Kenya, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Panama, Spain, Sweden and USA.

Up to November 15, Canadian activist Sara Marlowe, with her antiwar expressions; soldiers Polo & Castaño from Colombian army, with their album “Dreams of a Soldier”; Northamerican musicians Matt Singer, Miss Kristin and Brian Harrison, each with their artwork; Colombian psychoanalyst Astrid Alvarez, with an essay about music and war; and New York singer Kimi Landen (also known as Angrychik), with two songs, have contributed among others. A total of 106 jobs have been received and are available on both web pages http://www.musicagainstwar.com and http://www.musicacontralaguerra.com (most of them come form students and independent artists).

The International Call remains open to worldwide activists, students, writers, scientists, artists, actors, musicians, filmmakers and celebrities to create an international movement of explicit and authentic expressions against any form of war.

Ideas, songs, photos, videos, letters, poems and any other proposals can be mailed to: info@musicagainstwar.com and during the rest of 2004, the artist will gather the best material and summarize it in a multimedia document that will be sent to United Nations, in an attempt to show the world an artistic and peaceful channel of protest against war. All artistic expressions received in a digital format will be uploaded on the website on a weekly recurring basis.

His personal peace proposition began one year ago with the composition and production of his first piano album “Music Against War”, written as a tribute to war victims. Specifically, the artist is donating 50% of the sales of his album to a non-profit organization, which will manage and control the funds, with the final objective of investing them in musical education for war victims.

As of today, with his Spanish version of the website http://www.musicacontralaguerra.com, and live concerts performed during 2003, Jorge Hernan has achieved enough sales to guarantee that Omar Diaz, an injured soldier of military forces, could begin musical studies at University Los Andes, in Bogotá, Colombia on August 2003. Donations were made to the non-profit organization Querido Soldado (Dear Soldier), which was created as a free web-based channel so civil society could write encouraging and supportive e-mails to Colombian soldiers http://www.queridosoldado.org.

Jorge Hernan Pelaez is a 32 year old mathematician and independent musician from Bogotá, Colombia, who writes his music through a Stochastic Musical Composition method, technique that combines mathematical formulas such as probabilistic and random series, with the art of creating music. Coalition Against Terrorist Media Removes Hezbollahs Al-Manar Television from American Markets

The Coalition Against Terrorist Media (CATM) today praised satellite company Hispamar for removing the terrorist group Hezbollahs al-Manar television station from broadcast into North and South America. This marks the second time that CATM has taken al-Manar off the airwaves in the United States and throughout the Americas.

Al-Manar runs graphic videos encouraging viewers, even children, to become suicide bombers and calls for acts of terrorism against civilians, said Mark Dubowitz, COO of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, which organized CATM. Al-Manar is an operational weapon in the hands of one of the worlds most dangerous terrorist organizations.

We applaud Hispamar for quickly ending al-Manar broadcasts over its Amazonas satellite after we alerted them to its incitement to violence and support for terrorism, Dubowitz continued. By removing al-Manar, Hispamar is ending a very real threat. Hezbollah is known to have terror cells in more than 14 major American cities. It conducts illegal operations, including drug smuggling, throughout the Americas. And it demonstrated its ability and willingness to strike on this side of the Atlantic when its terrorists killed more than 100 innocent civilians in two bombings in Argentina.

With Hispamars decision, CATM and its allies have now been instrumental in removing al-Manar from eight satellites around the world, including two other satellites broadcasting into the United States and Latin America.

In December 2004, at CATMs urging, the U.S. State Department designated al-Manar as a terrorist organization. The same day, the Intelsat satellite company dropped al-Manar from broadcast in the United States and Canada.

On June 23, 2005, following intensive consultations with CATM and its allies, the government of Spain issued a press release denouncing al-Manars terrorist messages and removed al-Manar from broadcast over Hispasat, which reached all of Latin America.

Hispamar is a Brazilian company and branch of Hispasat. Its Amazonas satellite had broadcast al-Manar until being alerted by CATM about the stations support for terrorism.

Al-Manar is still broadcast to the Middle East, Europe and North Africa by Nilesat, whose major shareholder is the government of Egypt, and Arabsat, which is owned in part by the government of Saudi Arabia. Al-Manar’s broadcasts include commercials glorifying suicide bombers and encouraging others to join their ranks; viciously anti-American and anti-Semitic material, including the infamous and false blood libel depicting Jews killing a child to make Passover Matzah; and music videos calling for suicide bombers to attack coalition soldiers in Iraq.
