Global Mechanic signs veteran commercial animation Directors Dan Sousa and Rich Ferguson-Hull

BOSTON, MA and VANCOUVER BC (PRWEB) January 29, 2004

Global Mechanic’s executive producer Matthew Charde announced today the signing of two veteran animation directors to its roster. Dan Sousa and Rich Ferguson-Hull both will join Global Mechanic and be represented for commercial production on a worldwide basis. This news comes on the heels of the studio going bi-coastal; in late 2003, Global Mechanic opened a studio in the United States in order to serve its increased business in commercial, television production, and independent film work. With facilities in both coasts, as well as a bolstered roster of talent, Global Mechanic can produce any type of commercial, television or film project from its Vancouver headquarters as well as from its Boston studios.

Daniel Sousa has been directing commercials and films for nearly 10 years. He graduated from The Rhode Island School of Design where he studied painting and animation. He spent 6 years at Olive Jar Studios (Boston and Los Angeles) as a Director and Animator then directed freelance for Circle Studios. Meanwhile, he taught at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, co-founded Handcranked Film Projects (http://www.handcrankedfilm.com, a collaborative of New England film-makers), and produced his award-winning short, Minotaur (1999.). Currently he is teaching at RISD and working on a new independent film which is being funded by LEF Foundation’s Moving Image Fund. Daniel animates in cel, drawn, 3D CGI, and mixed-media.

Dan’s commercial directing credits include six Nestle Quik Bunny commercials produced for McCann-Erickson and many of the “Marsha Campaign” commercials for Marshall’s and Hill Holliday. In addition, Dan has directed individual spots for Kemper Financial Services for Foote Cone Belding, and numerous promos, shorts and IDs for Cartoon Network. His work includes a huge portfolio of character animation work with the likes of Bugs Bunny, The Power Puff Girls, and various other Looney Toon and Hanna-Barbera favorites. Dan has been the key animator on commercials for Coke, Samsung, NBC, Frito Lay, Kraft, and Pringles. He has animated with voice talent that includes Tracey Ullman and John Lithgow and shot in locations throughout the US, in Argentina and in South Africa.

Rich Ferguson-Hull has been animating as long as he can remember- but has been directing commercials since 1993. He attended The School of The Museum of Fine Arts and received his degree from Wesleyan University where he studied both animation and film. He spent 8 years as a Director and Animator at Olive Jar Studios (Boston and Los Angeles), half of which he served as the studios’ associate creative director. Rich works in cel, 3D CGI and Stop Motion.

Rich’s commercial directing credits include work for Kraft, Pillsbury, Staples and Citibank, for the ad agencies J. Walter Thompson, Leo Burnett, Euro RSCG and Young & Rubicam. In addition Rich has directed and animated work for both Universal Studios and Disneyland Theme Parks, two animation pilots for Cartoon Network and one for Fox Networks, as well as numerous network promos and IDs for TCM and Cartoon Network. Additional credits for Rich include director and key animator on projects for Coke, PBS’s Between the Lions, Monster.com and many others for agencies which include Arnold Worldwide, Lowe, and FCB. In addition to Rich’s commercial work, he currently is directing episodic television programming.

Bruce Alcock, Global Mechanic’s founder and Creative Director is “thrilled with the addition of these two guys. With both Dan and Rich working with us, we have now completely rounded out our animation offerings as a production company. They are two of the best cel and character animators working today- add in their talents as directors and experience in long-format production to the team we have in place and oh, the places we’ll go!”

Dan and Rich will join the roster that already includes Bruce Alcock, Marv Newland, Nathaniel Akin, and Ann Marie Fleming.

Recent Global Mechanic projects include: a nine spot broadcast campaign for Bell Mobility and ReThink Advertising, television commercial work for Dove (Unilever) and Leo Burnett. Recent independent films include the feature documentary film by Ann Marie Fleming “The Magical Life of Long Tack Sam” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and the animation short by Bruce Alcock “Wrong Number Phone Message”, invited to the Sundance On-Line Film Festival.

Global Mechanic (http://www.globalmechanic.com) is a bi-coastal animation and live action production company that makes television commercials, independent films, and music videos. They work in all media, blending techniques and styles with the goal of creating an emotional connection with the audience. Turn An American Road Trip Into A Cross-Cultural Learning Experience For The Whole Family, With Tips From Global Wonders

Pasadena, Calif. (PRWEB) June 25, 2009

The maps are out, the suitcases are packed, the minivan is washed, the kids are already complaining. Sounds like the makings of a memorable summer road trip. Many families are forgoing international travel and hitting the road this year, but that doesn’t mean they can’t have an international cultural experience.

A tourism outlook from Visa, as reported in the Wall Street Journal’s The Wallet blog, says that Americans are interested in traveling abroad, but 83 percent are changing their travel plans because of the economy — either deciding to take trips at off-peak times or to stay closer to home. In the same blog post, BudgetTravel.com senior editor Sean O’Neill declares this to be “the summer of the great American road trip.”

Global Wonders, producer of award-winning cross-cultural children’s entertainment, offers parents some tips on using all that car time to bring the world to their kids:

In Celebration of Earth Day, Global Village School Launches Unique Homeschool Curriculum Based on The Earth Charter

Ojai, CA (PRWEB) April 20, 2010

In celebration of Earth Day (April 22), Global Village School, a leader in distance learning through homeschooling, is proud to announce its new K-8 Whole Child, Healthy Planet curriculum. This innovative approach in education features a learning styles-centered program, focusing on engaging the whole child with an emphasis on diversity and developmental stages.

The school’s new K-8 curriculum guides are centered on the four core principles of the Earth Charter: (1) Respect and Care for the Community of Life (2) Ecological Integrity (3) Social & Economic Justice (4) Democracy, Nonviolence, Peace and Diversity.

Families of children attending Global Village School are already enthusiastic about the new curriculum. Parent Beth Campbell-Rafdal says, “We received our Whole Child, Healthy Planet curriculum guide last week. We are so excited that we found Global Village School. I feel as though the curriculum was written for our family! Thank you for helping us navigate an even more meaningful path of homeschooling with our kids.”

While most standard curriculum is shaped by a textbook and a workbook, the Whole Child, Healthy Planet curriculum is built around the inspiration found in many types of literature.

Sally Carless, founder and Executive Director of Global Village School explains, “The K8 curriculum guides cover all of the core academic subjects in a way that engages students through a sense of enchantment, awe, and wonder as well as through the incorporation of art, music, nature, imagination, and story.”

“Global Village is truly a school with heart,” says Marriage, Family and Child Counselor Nancy Hart, M.A.. “How can a child truly learn when his or her focus is the fear around test taking and memorization? If the strongest emotion around schooling is fear, then that fear gets connected to the learning process. Promoting the love of learning, not the fear of failing to learn–wow! What a concept! Isn’t this what we want for our children?”

About Global Village School –

From its base in the coastal hills of Southern California, this successful distance learning school reaches out to students as far away as Arkansas, Argentina and Australia. The school offers an international K-12 homeschool diploma program that empowers students to cultivate their gifts and passions by engaging them in a creative, flexible educational process grounded in the principles of peace, justice, diversity, and sustainability.

The K8 Whole Child, Healthy Planet curriculum is currently being used by private and charter schools as well as by homeschoolers. To explore samples of the K8 courses, visit http://www.globalvillageschool.org/k8-curriculum.html.

Help Support World MS Day - May 26, 2010; Join with 62 Countries to Mobilize the Global MS Movement

New York, NY (Vocus) May 27, 2010

This year on May 26, the world unites once more in the MS movement to highlight the international effects of multiple sclerosis (MS). Organized by the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF) with the help of MS Societies in 62 countries, including the United States, the day will be marked by more than 200 events around the world in a concerted effort to build awareness for MS and enhance collaboration that will bring us closer to a world free of multiple sclerosis.

This year to bring home the importance of what an MS diagnosis can mean, which occurs hourly in the US, the MSIF initiated the first global survey covering 125 countries and examining the Global Impact of Multiple Sclerosis. Estimates among the 15 nations tracking such data, indicate that the average annual costs of MS to the person affected and society as a whole to be $ 41,335, and most currently in the US, $ 69,118. Based on an MS population in the U.S. of 400,000 that would mean the total yearly impact of MS in the United States is $ 28 billion. Loss of employment, or early retirement, was considered to be the single largest factor contributing to this financial cost.

http://www.msif.org/en/get_involved/world_ms_day_2010/economic_impact.html

MS is found in every country in the world, and is one of the most common neurological diseases amongst people in their 20s and 30s. It is a prime of life disease striking just when people are building their careers and families. MS affects at least twice as many women as men and up to 60% of people diagnosed with MS will experience long-term disability, though continuing medical breakthroughs have brought partially effective treatments to many.

Thousands in 25 Countries to Celebrate 1st Global Oneness Day Oct. 24; Tutu, Ono, Chopra, Beckwith, Keating Among Supporters

Boulder, Colo. (PRWEB) October 18, 2010

Thousands of people in more than 25 countries will celebrate the first Global Oneness Day Oct. 24 by demonstrating humanitys inner unity and outer diversity, organizers announced today.

The day — initiated by the global grassroots Humanitys Team movement and supported by the Association for Global New Thought and some three dozen other groups — is a day when the greatness of the whole is reflected in the greatness of its parts, Humanitys Team Worldwide Coordinating Director Steve Farrell said.

It is also a day that is a key steppingstone toward creating lasting peace in the world, organizers said.

Lasting peace requires that we awaken humanity to our underlying oneness, educate people to the beauty of our diversity and alert the world to the imperative that we must embody these values so that life as we know it may not only be preserved, but renewed and transformed, AGNT President the Rev. Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith said.

PROMINENT GLOBAL ONENESS DAY SUPPORTERS include South African Nobel Peace laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu; artist-musician Yoko Ono; spiritual writers Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson, Neale Donald Walsch and Andrew Harvey; Trappist monk and priest Father Thomas Keating; futurist Barbara Marx Hubbard, and U.N. Culture of Peace emissary Anwarul K. Chowdhury.

The day, planned as the first annual worldwide celebration, provides opportunities for individuals, organizations and nations to create practical acts demonstrating unity, diversity, harmony and compassion on a shared date, comparable to what happens on Earth Day.

Practical action will provide tangible, experiential proof of how we can live when we come from a place of oneness, Beckwith said. It will encourage us all to expand our hopes, beliefs and behaviors so that at any moment oneness may permeate all aspects of life.

Would the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks have occurred if humanity had already recognized we are all one? Beckwith said. Would we now tolerate accelerated global warming, extreme poverty and hunger, and gender inequality? Would we fight each other under the banner of organized religion and in the name of God?

Recognizing the oneness of humanity and all of life is the key to solving most chronic and acute world problems, Beckwith said.

U.N. ENVOY: NO PEACE WITHOUT ONENESS

Indeed, peace efforts will continue to fail until people embrace humanitys oneness, Chowdhury said May 20 on receiving a grassroots plea to the United Nations, signed by more than 50,000 people from 168 countries, appealing to the world body to affirm humanitys oneness and endorse an annual Global Oneness Day.

I believe that unless we have that sense of solidarity among the peoples of the world, all our efforts of peace and security will go nowhere, said Chowdhury, a former undersecretary-general and high representative of the United Nations.

A sampling of scheduled Global Oneness Day events, to date, includes:

Think Global, Act Mobile: New App Puts Global Change in Your Hands

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 15, 2011

As world leaders prepare to meet in New York this month for high-level meetings at the UN General Assembly, the United Nations Foundation launched a first-of-its-kind mobile and tablet application that makes it easy for people everywhere to connect with the United Nations. The application allows people everywhere, free of charge, to get the latest news on the life-saving work of the United Nations and to share information through social media and mobile technology. The free app for smartphones and tablets will aggregate news feeds from multiple UN agencies and programs and deliver news in one integrated, real-time stream that is easy-to-use and tailored to a persons interests and individual mobile device. Users can personalize their UN news by selecting the topic areas and regions of most interest. The stream will be available in all six of the official languages of the UN.

During a launch event at UN headquarters today, UN Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information Kiyo Akasaka and UN Foundation CEO Kathy Calvin unveiled the mobile app, inviting people to help the UN solve global problems by getting connected and staying informed.

Just as open, social and real-time technologies are changing the UNs development and disaster relief work, the same technologies are redefining relationships between people and institutions, said Akasaka. Tools such as the UN Foundation’s new app are critical to empower citizens to stay informed about the UNs work, to participate in the global conversation, and to support the push to realize the Millennium Development Goals.

Singer-songwriter and UN Messenger of Peace Stevie Wonder, High School Musical star and UN Youth Champion Monique Coleman and Toshiba America Senior Manager of Communications Eddie Temistokle joined to help launch the new app and stressed the importance of innovation to combat poverty worldwide.

As UN Youth Champion, I traveled the world for six months visiting over 20 countries. I saw firsthand the role that technology can play particularly in education, said Coleman. I encourage everyone to download this app. It can bridge the gap between young people and the United Nations and equip today’s philanthroteen with the tools he or she needs to have global social impact.

The application, which is already available on the Android, iPhone/iPad, and Windows Phone platforms, allows users to support the work of the UN to tackle the worlds most pressing challenges by supporting UN Foundation campaigns and programs, including Nothing but Nets, Girl Up, the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, the Better World Campaign, and the United Nations Association of the USA. The app is compatible with the accessibility features of most smartphones, and future versions and updates will always welcome ways to make mobile technology and information as accessible as possible.

When we imagine the peaceful, healthy world we want our children to inherit, the UN is at the heart of that vision. And now the power to be part of that future is literally in the palm of our hands, said Calvin. Mobile technology has the ability to connect millions of people to world issues such as childrens health, peace and security, womens empowerment, climate and the environment, and U.S.-UN relations. We invite people to make global action a part of their mobile devices by downloading the new UN Foundation application to get real-time updates on the UNs work and take action that will make a difference for millions of people around the globe.

The app makes it easy to get involved and includes some innovative (and fun) ways to learn about the work of the United Nations. An upcoming interactive photo-scramble game, Pieces of Peace, will give users the ability to have fun while they learn by unscrambling photos taken around the world that are related to the work of the UN. The game includes ways for users to learn as they play, helping build awareness and knowledge about international issues. Integrated social media options also allow users to organically share this content with friends, brag about their photo-unscrambling prowess, and encourage them to get involved.

Building and launching this official UN Foundation application has been a global effort. The app was developed through a partnership with FDV Solutions an Argentina-based software development company that builds innovative mobile solutions. The project was made possible with the support of the UN Foundations Global Entrepreneurs Council, which brings together some of the worlds top young leaders committed to finding innovative solutions to global problems.

The launch of the UN Foundation app marks an important milestone as the nonprofit community moves to create new ways for supporters to help drive social change, said Shervin Pishevar, Managing Director at Menlo Ventures. As a member of the UN Foundations Global Entrepreneurs Council, I am excited to support a project that will help ensure that people around the world have instant access to information about the lifesaving work of the United Nations, as well as the ability to take action anytime, anyplace.

Increasing Internet Penetration Boosts Internet Services Market, According to a New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

San Jose, California (PRWEB) January 18, 2012

Follow us on LinkedIn Increasing broadband penetration and rapid technological advancements are facilitating streaming of high-quality audio and video content, thereby driving the revenues of Internet service providers. Over the years, Internet services segment transitioned from free to fee-based model, which is largely attributed to the growing willingness of users to pay for the desired content and services. Several Internet users willingly pay for premium online content and services, especially entertainment specific content such as music, sports, and games. Broadband users in the age group of 25-45 years are principal contributors of online content revenues. Paid Internet services are also finding favor due to the rapid growth in online user base and smart pricing strategies of content providers.

The Internet services market continued to remain buoyant despite the global economic crisis as services such as online advertising proved to be far more economical than other marketing strategies to survive economic upheavals. Digital media such as online advertising, mobile marketing, online verticals, Internet Yellow Pages, and voice search gained prominence especially in a business climate favoring low cost options. The ISP market made moderate gains following various infrastructural investments made by businesses for improving infrastructure to facilitate superior connectivity speeds to improve cost management as well as superior customer accessibility. The optimism of ISPs was further strengthened by the unwillingness of Internet subscribers to part with subscription plans and the increased usage of world wide web for purposes, such as price comparisons, bargains and seeking economical pricing structure, finding new or alternative employment opportunities, upgrading employment skills, selling personal items, and finding loan opportunities. Broadband services emerged unfazed from the by-gone economic downturn and continued to attract new subscribers.

Asia currently represents the leading regional market for Internet Services driven by China, which tops the list of nations with largest Internet subscriber base. The country has also become a preferred market for Internet services owing to the privatization of a number of state utilities. Growth in the Chinese market is driven by online gaming, e-commerce and advertising. India and Japan also offer enormous potential due to vast Internet subscriber base. Potential opportunities exist in developing regions of Latin America and Eastern Europe, as respective governments place emphasis on improving Internet infrastructure. The year 2010 registered twofold increase in the connection speed of mobile networks. With an increase in 3.5G and 3G phones users, mobile Internet services and websites, which are compatible with mobile devices, are on the rise. The Asia-Pacific region, with its rapidly growing mobile-only penetration, is expected to lead the mobile-only broadband market in the year 2015. Online games segment is another major driver to the Internet services industry. The prevalence of PCs, Internet cafes, and increase in broadband usage fueled growth in the industry. A major growth driver is the rapid increase in Internet penetration levels, which continues to expose new web surfers to online video games.

The research report titled Internet Services: A Global Outlook announced by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., provides a collection of statistical anecdotes, market briefs, and concise summaries of research findings. The report offers an aerial view of the global industry, identifies major short to medium term market challenges, and growth drivers. Market discussions in the report are punctuated with fact-rich market data tables. Regional markets elaborated upon include United States, Canada, Japan, France, Germany, UK, China, India, South Korea, Brazil, Argentina, and Israel, among others. Also included is an indexed, easy-to-refer, fact-finder directory listing the addresses, and contact details of companies worldwide.

San Jose, California (PRWEB) August 22, 2012 Follow us on LinkedIn Internet and broadband connectivity has transformed the manner in which global communications takes place. Broadband, referring to high-speed Internet access along with related devices, applications, networks and content, continues to find adoption at a steady rate among global consumers driven by increasing popularity of bandwidth-specific applications, namely IP telephony services, music file downloads, and viewing online videos. Decreasing prices and growing availability of broadband services all around the world are also contributing to the rapid uptake of broadband Internet services. Several Governments, particularly in Asia, are promoting uptake of broadband Internet by offering subsidies to broadband companies and are improving existing infrastructure. High-speed Internet is the most widely used type of fixed line connection, although wireless technologies are fueling demand in remote regions. Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), cable modem, and mobile wireless are among the major broadband technologies across the world. While DSL dominates the global fixed broadband subscriber base, cable broadband and FTTx represent the other major types of fixed broadband technologies. Cable broadband is the second most popular broadband technology in the world following DSL with a 30% of the subscriber base. In recent times, a number of households are exhibiting preference for multiple types of broadband Internet connections. Cable broadband technology holds an edge over DSL due to its ability to offer services with superior speeds. Cable technology also has an edge over DSL connections in terms of content and services. Multi-Service Operators (MSOs) are focused on adding new and additional equipment and cables to their existing service network to capitalize on the opportunities emerging from the rapid adoption of cable broadband. Several cable companies are adopting DOCSIS 3.0 and Euro-DOCSIS 3.0 specifications, which allow them to upgrade their operations and offer 50 to 200 mbps broadband connectivity to their customers. As stated by the new market research report on Cable Modem Subscribers, the United States is the single largest cable modem market in the world, in terms of number of subscribers. In the US, cable broadband subscribers outnumber DSL broadband subscribers by a considerable margin. Growing popularity of high-volume data applications, and broadband stimulus plan offered by the US Government bode well for the markets growth. However, rapid growth is expected from Eastern Europe, Latin America, and Asia Pacific markets. In developing economies, adoption of cable modems is expected to grow significantly driven by rising education and income levels, increasing computerization, rapid urbanization, and growing competition between service providers, which is in turn leading to fall in prices of cable broadband services. Further, broadband market in these countries is expected to benefit immensely from Web 2.0 technology and the rapid expansion of social media networks. Future potential for growth is enormous given the relatively lower broadband penetration rate among households. Latin America represents the fastest growing regional market with a CAGR of 12% over the review period. Major players profiled in the report include Cablevision Systems Corporation, Charter Communications Inc., Cogeco Cable Inc., Comcast Corporation, Com Hem AB, Cox Enterprises, Hathway, Insight Communications Company Inc., Kabel Deutschland, Liberty Global Inc., Rogers Communications Inc., Shaw Communications Inc., StarHub Ltd., Telstra Corporation Limited, and Time Warner Cable Inc.
