Newsademic Launches English American Edition

(PRWEB) September 27, 2006

Newsademic, the international newspaper for the younger reader, is now available in two versions. Subscribers can choose either British or American English. Each carries the same news stories but differs in writing style, punctuation and spelling.

Newsademic is carefully written and edited for children aged between 9 and 16. Its aim is to educate and inform them about current international news stories.

There are now over 4,600 Newsademic readers – ranging from Argentina to Fiji and Sweden to South Africa. These include 232 schools and educational establishments.

“We are delighted to broaden our appeal,” said Susan Elkin, Newsademic’s editor. “Since our launch at the beginning of the year we have had a lot of feedback from readers in the USA. Many said that an American English edition would be a good idea.”

“Most of our subscribers – parents who take an active interest in their children’s education, ‘homeschoolers’, schools who view current affairs as an important part of the curriculum and language schools who use Newsademic as an aid to teaching English as a foreign language — live in countries where British English is the norm. So we hope that the new American English edition will make Newsademic more attractive to those in the USA and other countries who use American rather than British English” added Mrs Elkin.

Newsademic carries no advertising. Neither does it feature television, sport, computer games, pop music or celebrity culture. The focus is on international news events — the ones which shape and affect the world that we all live in today.

Newsademic is distributed fortnightly as a PDF file by email. Although it can be read on screen it is designed to be printed out and read as a paper copy. Subscription rates are

Showtime Launches Mobile Video

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 9, 2006

Mobile Streams and Showtime Networks Inc. announced today that Mobile Streams has built an Off-Deck WAP portal to provide mobile users with access to content from SHOWTIME programs for the first time. WAP, or Wireless Application Protocol, is a secure specification that allows users to access information instantly via handheld wireless devices such as mobile phones, pagers, two-way radios, smartphones and communicators. Mobile users with 2.5G or 3G handsets will be able to access the mobile offering, subject to carrier and handset capabilities.

This is a groundbreaking arrangement where a television network will give consumers cross-carrier access to video clips from its shows. At launch, the SHOWTIME WAP portal gives mobile users access to video clips and wallpapers from the critically acclaimed new Original Series DEXTER starring Michael C. Hall, as well as video clips from the Emmy®-nominated and Golden Globe®-winning WEEDS and the new sketch comedy series THE UNDERGROUND starring Damon Wayans. Content from other Showtime programming, such as SLEEPER CELL, THE L WORD and SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING will be rolled out in the coming weeks.

The launch of this WAP portal coincides with the multimedia promotional campaign surrounding the premiere of SHOWTIME’s newest hit original series DEXTER. In addition to giving consumers access to this portal on their mobile phones via http://wap.sho.com, messaging has been integrated into print, outdoor and on-air promotion for DEXTER to prompt mobile users to send a text message to SHOWTIME to request more content and information on the show. For example, users can text the word “DEXTER” to the short code SHOTV (74688) in order to receive more information and content on the show via mobile. Users can also learn how to access this mobile content at http://sho.com/dexter.

Robert Hayes, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Digital Media for Showtime Networks commented: “Mobile has become an increasingly important component of our overall program promotion and marketing campaigns. It offers us an excellent subscriber acquisition and program sampling opportunity on the expanding mobile platform” Hayes concluded.

Chris Rovtar, Senior Vice President of Mobile Streams, who manages the SHOWTIME relationship says: “We are extremely excited to be involved in the SHOWTIME mobile application. This is the opportune time to raise the curtain on SHOWTIME mobile content by providing users with a very rich video experience.”

MPTours.com Launches 3 New MP3 Walking Tours of Rome as Demand for Audio Guides Increases

Rome, Italy (PRWEB) September 12, 2008

If you’re planning to travel to Rome, you now have 3 new MPTours to guide you through this wonderful and historic city! MPTours.com recently launched 3 new MP3 walking tours of Rome, Italy. The company, which also has 3 MP3 walking tours of the most popular neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, Argentina, is quickly expanding its offering in response to the fast-growing demand for downloadable audio guides. “Rome is a fantastic walking city,” says co-founder Paul Iribarne. “The amount of history and architectural beauty is perfect to enjoy at your own pace, with no schedules.”

The three new available products for Rome invite travellers to discover Trastevere, Piazza del Popolo to Fontana di Trevi, and Campo de’ Fiori to the Pantheon. Each MPTour has its own style, but all maintain the company’s trademark: experiential, lively, interesting walking tours narrated by a local friend who is showing you around a specific part of town.

MPTours’ offering goes far beyond a voice feeding information to the listener. The audio tours create an experience as you get to know the narrator’s personality, walk to the beat of the music and take in the history of the area . MPTours can also complement existing guides and bus tours, providing an alternative style and delivering information with a twist of local flavor.

“There is nothing like discovering a city with the help of a local friend, and our mp3 walking tours do exactly that, with the added benefit of music and historical input,” says co-founder Steven Finder.

In order to purchase an MPTour, go online to http://www.mptours.com where you can purchase and download the mp3 file in a matter of minutes. Each MPTour has about 1 hour of audio, and it usually takes around 2 to 3 hours to cover as users may choose to explore certain spots further, or stop for a drink somewhere. A printable map is included for reference and marked with suggested stops. MPTours.com will also offer pre-loaded MP3 players for travelers already in Rome or for those who forgot their MP3 players at home. More information will be posted on the MPTours.com site soon.

About MPTours.com

MPTours.com was created for the savvy independent traveler looking for an inventive type of journey. Its goal is to provide a state-of-the-art touring experience that will physically, intellectually and sensually transport travelers into the core of a city.

MPTours.com also creates high-quality audio files for instructive and commercial purposes.

The founders of MPTours.com are two former college roommates with shared passions: travel, technology and soccer. They embarked on this adventure when they recognized an unfilled gap in the tourism industry for the so-called iPod generation. Why not combine technology with travel to create a travel experience that can appeal to the five senses? Their mission was to create a product for freedom-seeking, intrepid travelers like themselves who want to be immersed in new places. No schedules, no groups, no waiting around for others to be ready. All travelers need to explore the world is their MP3 player.

In Celebration of Earth Day, Global Village School Launches Unique Homeschool Curriculum Based on The Earth Charter

Ojai, CA (PRWEB) April 20, 2010

In celebration of Earth Day (April 22), Global Village School, a leader in distance learning through homeschooling, is proud to announce its new K-8 Whole Child, Healthy Planet curriculum. This innovative approach in education features a learning styles-centered program, focusing on engaging the whole child with an emphasis on diversity and developmental stages.

The school’s new K-8 curriculum guides are centered on the four core principles of the Earth Charter: (1) Respect and Care for the Community of Life (2) Ecological Integrity (3) Social & Economic Justice (4) Democracy, Nonviolence, Peace and Diversity.

Families of children attending Global Village School are already enthusiastic about the new curriculum. Parent Beth Campbell-Rafdal says, “We received our Whole Child, Healthy Planet curriculum guide last week. We are so excited that we found Global Village School. I feel as though the curriculum was written for our family! Thank you for helping us navigate an even more meaningful path of homeschooling with our kids.”

While most standard curriculum is shaped by a textbook and a workbook, the Whole Child, Healthy Planet curriculum is built around the inspiration found in many types of literature.

Sally Carless, founder and Executive Director of Global Village School explains, “The K8 curriculum guides cover all of the core academic subjects in a way that engages students through a sense of enchantment, awe, and wonder as well as through the incorporation of art, music, nature, imagination, and story.”

“Global Village is truly a school with heart,” says Marriage, Family and Child Counselor Nancy Hart, M.A.. “How can a child truly learn when his or her focus is the fear around test taking and memorization? If the strongest emotion around schooling is fear, then that fear gets connected to the learning process. Promoting the love of learning, not the fear of failing to learn–wow! What a concept! Isn’t this what we want for our children?”

About Global Village School –

From its base in the coastal hills of Southern California, this successful distance learning school reaches out to students as far away as Arkansas, Argentina and Australia. The school offers an international K-12 homeschool diploma program that empowers students to cultivate their gifts and passions by engaging them in a creative, flexible educational process grounded in the principles of peace, justice, diversity, and sustainability.

The K8 Whole Child, Healthy Planet curriculum is currently being used by private and charter schools as well as by homeschoolers. To explore samples of the K8 courses, visit http://www.globalvillageschool.org/k8-curriculum.html.
