The Indie Rock Band - Argentine - Debut CD "In Other Fictions" to be Released 8/23/04 Through Pehr Records Distribution

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) August 7, 2004

Argentine means silver. Or it is a silver fish (also: Argentina Silas or Silver Smelt). You could also note Pericles, Prince of Tyre: “Celestial Dian, goddess argentine, I will obey thee!” But that still just means silver. None of the three members have been to Argentina. Most would like to.

Formed from the early starts of Ian Carpenter (vocals, guitars) & Nat Guy’s (guitar & bass) collaborations – this Brooklyn band has grown to 5 members – Timothy Quigley(Drummer/Percussionist), Marcus Smith (Bass, Keyboards, Guitar) and Chris Curtis (almighty viola) – incorporating all their distilled influences together and adding their own aesthetic verve – from Yo La Tengo to Mojave3 to Death Cab for Cutie and Low comparisons – all mixed up to make what is now the Argentine sound – Argentine – the band. Their debut CD “In Other Fictions” was recorded in 2003 and is now being distributed internationally thru Pehr Records Distribution come late summer 2004. With “In Other Fictions” getting its international distro release Argentine plans to support the CD through more shows in and out of New York City and also garner more great press (see PRESS section) and radioplay. Currently the band resides in Brooklyn, NY and is working on new songs – while also supporting “In Other Fictions” – for a 2nd album to be recorded sometime in the future.

The album was recorded initially in a secluded Chinatown basement. When electrical gremlins arrived the operation moved to a tucked-away Long Island City loft with barking dogs and noisy plumbing. The 8 song album was put together surprisingly quickly despite the setbacks. Charles Burst of The Occasion recorded and mixed the album and Argentine couldn’t be happier with the results. Gene Paul, the seasoned vet with an ear of silver, mastered.

Argentine is Ian Carpenter, Nat Guy, Marcus Smith, Chris Curtis and Timothy Quigley.

Ian Carpenter: Ian sings and plays guitar in Argentine. He has the clean, clear, languid lines from his Tele unless its time for distortion. One of founders of Argentine he contributes alot to the band’s sound and aesthetic.

Nat Guy: Nat plays guitar and bass in Argentine. Nat also makes things for Argentine like the album design and Argentine’s website.

Timothy Quigley: Mr. Quigley plays drums and percussion and also found the good sense to contribute glockenspiel, Wurlitzer and guitar to the album.

Marcus Smith – A newer and great contributing member. Bass, Guitar, Keyboards, Backing Vocals

Chris Curtis – The presence of Chris cannot be understated on his instrument. Really really beautiful. – Viola

Multiple Grammy® Award Winning Band Bacilos, to release long awaited album entitled SINVERGÜENZA, on September 28

Miami, FL (PRWEB) September 30, 2004

Warner Music Latina has announced the release on September 28th of SinVergüenza, the long awaited album by multiple Grammy® Award winning band BACILOS. SinVergüenza was produced by world-renowned Juan Vicente Zambrano (Celia Cruz, Ricky Martin, J-Lo) and the late Tom Capone (Maria Rita, Skank) and recorded in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Miami, Florida. The new production is the follow-up to the mega-hit and last year’s Grammy® Award winning Best Latin Pop album Caraluna,

SinVergüenza is a fusion of genres which is most represented in BACILOS’ own members: Colombian born singer/songwriter and guitarist Jorge Villamizar, Brazilian bassist Andre Lopes and Puerto Rican percussionist and drummer José Javier (J J) Freire, together the band brings forth their own ethnicity by creating a mélange of pop, samba, tropical, alt-rock, reggae, among others and thus infusing a peculiar and very own sound.

The first promotional single “Pasos de Gigante”, was released last month and has quickly become embraced by fans and radio stations across the U.S. and Latin America “Pasos de Gigante”, written by BACILOS’ own Jorge Villamizar, is a simple love story that starts with a rhythm reminiscent of footsteps (“pasos”) and erupts into an up-tempo celebration of Colombian sounds with Haitian flavor.

SinVergüenza promises to be a more stronger and ambitious album than the group’s previous ones. “We have become very aware of our own environment,” says Villamizar. “Our songs are more intense and socially conscious, without leaving behind a higher dosage of romanticism.” The intensity, he says, comes from “being more self-confident and secure in what we are doing.”

BACILOS, who just came back from a trip to Kenya, where they filmed a TV special for Animal Planet, will be on a promotional tour, visiting Puerto Rico, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile in October; and launches their US Concert Tour in November. Dates will be forthcoming.

The video for “Pasos de Gigante” will be film in Puerto Rico shortly, and is to be directed by Carlos Perez

World Music Band Los Pinguos, Hailing From Argentina, Hits The Stage At The Lensic, Santa Fes Performing Arts Center May 18th

Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) May 06, 2012

As part of its World Music series, The Lensic, a SantaFe.com Featured Business, presents the Argentine band Los Pinguos on May 18. A longtime favorite amongst world music fans, Los Pinguos are extensively touring the U.S. and Canada to promote their eighth album, 1111, which officially hit the streets April 18th. The new collection of songs captures the bands dynamic genre-bending musical range, showcasing a stunning ability to integrate traditional Latin rhythms into thoroughly modern compositions.

Longtime listeners will recognize the bands trademark infectious sound. The addition of a string quartet on four songs, lends a distinctive cinematic feel to those tracks, and the album as a whole. Many songs on 1111 have been road-tested over the last two to three years. In concert, the band reproduces their sound with precision, yet they retain that elusive raw energy live audiences have come to expect from Los Pinguos.

Hailing from cosmopolitan Buenos Aries, Argentina, Los Pinguos united in 1999, immediately winning over fans with their passionate live shows in clubs, bars and private parties throughout the capital. Making a leap of faith, the band journeyed to Los Angeles in 2001, intent on taking their career to the next level. Consistent performances for excited audiences at clubs like The Latin Lounge, The Knitting Factory, Key Club and others culminated in impressive gigs at Santa Monicas 3rd Street Promenade. These shows convinced the band of their ability to reach a wide and diverse audience. Spotted by a talent scout on the promenade, Los Pinguos soon found themselves winning the Grand Prize on the show The Next Big Star and were finally exposed to a national audience.

Since then, the band has recorded five albums and have played with such acts as Ozomatli, Taj Mahal, The Skatalites, The Neville Brothers, Pablo Montero, Paul Anka, Pl
