Could the Secret of Winning Major Voice Competitions Lie in Biofeedback?

(PRWEB) March 06, 2012

The Limited Edition Voice suite, just launched by the BFE-LFB program, is designed for use with the world-leading ProComp Infiniti biofeedback system manufactured by Thought Technology Ltd. In the suite, Dr Adam Kirkpatrick makes available his experience and knowledge to the novice to complement his established voice teaching method and exciting research.

Dr. Kirkpatrick is an associate professor of music at Kennesaw State University where he is head of the voice department. He has sung operatic roles and concerts professionally in many theatres throughout the US. When asked about the new suite, Lawrence Klein, Vice President at Thought Technology commented, The Voice software is a really exciting product that opens the door for biofeedback practitioners across the country to help singers improve both performance and health. Keeping the voice in top form is important, but mastering a technique that might provide the upper hand at an audition in a highly competitive industry is priceless.

Thought Technology is a corporate sponsor of the BFE-LFB program and will be exhibiting at the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB) Annual Conference in Baltimore this week. Biofeedback professionals can learn more about the equipment Adam Kirkpatrick uses with his voice suite at booths 21 and 22.

Biofeedback for Music and the Performing Arts

When asked for his comments on the use of biofeedback in the world of music and the performing arts, Mr. Klein replied, When McGill University required a wireless audience response system to measure affective response to live music in both the musicians and their audiences they chose the ProComp Infiniti system over all other competitive systems. (For more information on how the system is used http://www.thoughttechnology.com/pdf/Mcgill%20Ad%208.pdf) The use of biofeedback for optimal performance training is not new. In fact, Dr. Vietta Sue Wilson has used biofeedback with peak performers for years.

Peak Performance in Sports

The Optimizing Performance & Health Suite designed by Dr. Vietta Sue Wilson and published by the BFE is for professionals, educators and researchers who want to use biofeedback with athletes, executives and other peak performers. This Limited Edition suite supports techniques developed throughout Dr. Wilson`s career and her years spent training elite and Olympic athletes. It includes a specialized assessment script and an Excel report that allows easy interpretation and implementation of a training program directly from Dr. Wilsons practice.

Two users of Dr. Wilson`s suite are Tim Harkness and Pierre Beauchamp. Tim is a psychophysiologist involved in high performance stated, I am accustomed to using the Infiniti system to train athletes to perform under pressure. At Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United, and in front of a crowd of 40,000 people, I used my Infiniti system to analyse the sEMG of an England Rugby academy kicker executing kicks at half-time of a test match between England and Argentina. The assessment went smoothly; prepping the skin and attaching the electrodes was done in a few minutes. The athlete kicked 5/6, and reported no inhibition from the monitoring equipment.

Dr. Beauchamp holds a doctorate in Sports Psychology (University of Montreal) and Masters/Bachelors degrees from McGill University. A former McGill varsity hockey player, Pierre has over thirty-five years of coaching experience at the varsity level in football, hockey, track, golf and as a Canadian National Team coach and sport psychology consultant. Pierre was the Sport Psychologist for the Men’s and Women’s Canadian Olympic Short Track Speed Skating Team that won 2 Gold, 2 Silver and a Bronze medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWbuSSAwqN0
