Bernadette Richards New Novel Examines Loss, Sacrifice Amidst Wartime

Buenos Aires, Argentina (PRWEB) September 22, 2011

There are few experiences more life-breaking than war, and in her novel Shattered Dreamland: Revised Edition (published by AuthorHouse) author Bernadette Richard draws from the events of the Vietnam War to craft a compelling story of love, service and loss.

When I was a little girl, Richard writes, I was very moved by listening about the Vietnam War on television, radio and above all, by reading Paris Match. There were so many articles and photos about the war. I felt huge pity for those young boys. I was inspired to write by the war and by the families who were victims indirectly.

The Donnellys and the Devons are two families who are great friends and whose children fall in love with each other. But these are not happy events. The union of these young lovers drives deeply into the families like knives when the Vietnam War reaches out to tear them apart.

Both Nick Devon and Tony Donnelly enlist to fight in the war, despite Nicks marriage to Jamie Donnelly and Tonys love for Jamies friend, Maggie. None of the parents are pleased with their sons decisions, but when Tony is killed and Nick is declared missing in action, their lives begin to unravel.

With a narrative sure to be familiar to readers of any age, Shattered Dreamland is a stunning examination of the effects of war and death on close-knit families.
